Paper Pad Storage Idea

I purchased about 5 more 12 x 12 paper stacks that were on sale and I store them in my glass door jetmax cube.  However, it became really cumbersome when I wanted to grab a stack, I had to guess or pull out each stack until I got the one I wanted being that they all are on top of each other. So I had an idea to label them.

Now, I am able at a glance, to see and grab the one I need! Simple idea but I think this will really work from here on out. Eventually, I’m sure I’ll come a cross 3 more which will completely fill the cabinet so this labeling will be more beneficial than ever.

See this is the before photo and how basically they look the same from the side.

I was sure to ONLY write the label on the binding (either paper or that gum, glue binding) so it wouldn’t effect the paper at all.

I marked either Design or Solid, or any other identifying marks that make sense for me.

I love organization. Anything to make the process more smooth so I can spend more time creating.

The last ‘new’ thing I’ve purchased has to be my new Nikon D3100 DSLR camera.  I have a Canon Powershot and used it for many years and loved it but it is more of a point and shoot camera. I was craving though the feel of my 35mm camera with the removable lenses, and the easy turning of a manual focus.  I want to try portrait photography and I think I’ll be successful with this camera. So far I’ve gotten pretty great shots that I’m positive I couldn’t have gotten with my Canon.

Time got ahead of me so I wasn’t able to post this link until now, but I’m dating it still as the 6th.

This one was tough because I have about 6 boxes of ‘memorabilia’ in my basement right now that I’m close to being okay with parting with. I always said you can’t throw something away with a story attached to it…hence the 6 boxes LOL!

This Annie doll I’ve had as a kid, it was on a shelf in my craft room.  I remember seeing Annie as a kid. I had the soundtrack on album (remember 33s anyone?) and would play the entire thing on my sisters stereo record player while standing on her bed, singing and acting out the movie in front of her big vanity mirror.  Too funny!

I received a set of copic sketch markers for Christmas this past year and I had yet to REALLY give them a good try. Yesterday, and with my new frame of mind to STOP PROCRASTINATING I decided to just sit down and try them out.

But what to color?  I took my micro pen with some cold press watercolor paper and proceeded to sketch an elven type person (see the subtle hint in the ear shape :)     This really is my first venture into using markers this way. I was a fan of Berol Prismacolor Pencils when I first really began drawing all the time back i’d say in the 90s. I have alot of the drawings in my portfolio section.

My opinion of Copics…  without anything to compare them too,  I  like them. After just this practice, I think I understand how to use markers better.  I decided I’d really like smooth paper to draw on with markers instead of having this textured surface afterward.  I also want to make sure I get the right kind of paper so that it doesn’t bleed through. This watercolor paper I saw it was starting to come through if you can believe that.  Another thing is that with markers, you can’t vary the shade of a color so I found that I didn’t have enough variety of shades to use. You need alot of different shades to do what you really want and retail 5 bucks a piece  I think would push anyone, including myself, back to colored pencils where I can just lighten up on a pencil to get a lighter shade. :)   Don’t get me wrong I’m glad I got them and have them…I do think though I will only add to my 36 set if I can get them at a rock bottom price.

On a side note it really felt good to draw again. It’s been years now. As you probably already noticed, I still haven’t gotten down perspective on faces just yet. I can only draw one side of a face to look right by hand. The other side the eye isn’t quite the right angle for the way her head is tilting.  Just beating anyone out there to the punch :)

I wasn’t sure if the opportunity would present itself with my active kid…but fate was on my side when he actually said “mommy…take my picture!”  How could I say no for today’s challenge this was a no brainer :)

So day 5 of the photo a day challenge and i’m still with it!  I think if anything I’m using this challenge as something that I’m starting and determined to finish. As I said previously, I’m in a clean/purge mode in my craft room and just seeing all the projects that I’ve started (i’m making a list and seeing it on paper IS a bit daunting) I realize that I have a habit of starting things and never finishing. I’m starting this month to break that habit.  A while ago I heard some great advice that I have yet to try…it takes 30 day’s to make or break a habit. My procrastination is my habit to break. I need to do it. If I’m successful…I’d have SO many things to blog about it’s not even funny! :D
