Organize Your Life….with KonMari Method!
About a month ago, it seems i only first heard about the KonMari Method of organization. The amount of blogs i found articles on, from 2014 made me wonder ‘where have i been all this time’! I started about 4 weeks ago, and although i’m still on the ‘Clothes’ category (due to real life, time constraints…as usual!) I am already feeling the effects in such a good way. When I pick my clothes for work…less indecision = less time it takes. When i go shopping my mindset automatically goes towards “Do I really love this? …or am i just buying it cause it’s on clearance”. Alot of my closet was full of “good price – on trend – learn to love it for only those reasons” type of items. For me so far that thinking is definitely a thing of the past! (My bank account is thanking me 🙂
So first things first, the clothes…before and after.
The rule is to gather ‘all’ of the items from a category and pile them somewhere. I couldn’t do that (with the amount of clothes i had) or we would have had to sleep on the couch for a couple days until i got through it all and the bed was cleared! So i started with the closet and left the drawers for afterwards.
Doesn’t really look like a lot in the photo now that i see it again.
For me it seemed like i was mainly holding onto things that were too small to fit me now. That was 90% of my problem. When i went up in size, i bought new, but couldn’t bear to get rid of any old ‘just in case’ i got back down to that size. Once i started to not think of what i ‘was’ but what i ‘am’ the clearing out process was pretty fast.
Shoes are a little more tough cause i don’t have the ‘size’ issue to consider getting rid of them. They all fit me…so it comes down to love the most or love the least. One thing i did make a mental note of is that ‘I don’t need ANY more black dress shoes!’ How many black shoes does one person REALLY need in their closet!
I fell in love with the folding method for drawers because i am able to ‘see’ everything thing and color i have.
Here is a video i found with good visual on how to do it:
Now you might be thinking ‘i can’t take the time to fold like that everytime’. However, these past couple weeks, I’ve been folding laundry closer to the kon mari way, and really as you start doing it more, it gets quicker and really it doesn’t take anymore time than folding any other way. So i’m sold on the new way of folding part as well! Here is a few snaps of my shirts now in drawers.
After i’m done all the clothes, the next category is books. With a ton of books in boxes in the basement that I’ve been comforted with the knowledge they are down there BUT collecting dust because i haven’t seen or read in YEARS…it should be interesting.
