The Movies I Would Take To a Deserted Island Would Be…
All of us have movies we like, favorite movies, etc. There are only a select few though that hit that nerve that it’s just indescribable how much you love it. The replay value for you just cannot be explained. So to commemorate October 21, 2015 at 4:50pm (the date that Marty McFly went into the future) I’ve rounded up movies that have almost made a difference in my life…yes they hold that much weight for me.
Amadeus
Interesting Line From Movie:
“All I wanted was to sing to God. He gave me that longing… and then made me mute. Why? Tell me that. If He didn’t want me to praise him with music, why implant the desire? Like a lust in my body! And then deny me the talent?”
What I take from the movie:
This movie makes you think about what motivates you to do things in life. Salieri was clearly wrong to blame God for his lack of talent. He let someone steal his joy and his jealousy ruined him. Gratitude and counting blessings for what you have is a better way to have contentment in life.
Ferris Buellers Day Off
Interesting Line From Movie:
“The question isn’t what are we going to do. The question is what aren’t we going to do.”
What I take from the movie:
You can be careful in life, you should be…but darn it if you have the means just do your best to experience as many positive things as you can in this life. Before you know it it could be too late and remind yourself that ‘i wish i would have’ is the worst feeling in the world.
Jane Eyre
Interesting Line From Book (Paraphrased in movie):
“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will and i will leave you.”
What I take from the movie:
Never compromise with your convictions. No matter how in love she was or wanted to stay, she knew she owed it to herself to honor her moral guidelines. In the end though, she still ‘got the guy’ but was much happier for it.
Here is another quote but from the book: “I care for myself. The more solitary, the more friendless, the more unsustained I am, the more I will respect myself.”
My favorite film adaptations are: Jane Eyre 1973 with Timothy Dalton and Zelah Clarke. Then, 2006 Jane Eyre from Masterpiece Theatre with Toby Stephens.
Overboard
Interesting Line From Movie:
“Oh no, madam. Oh no. You… most of us go through life with blinders on. Knowing only that little station to which we were born. But you madam, have had the… rare privilege of escaping your bonds for just a spell. To see life from an entirely new perspective. How you choose to use that information is entirely up to you.”
What I take from the movie:
True change in a person is possible cause walking in other peoples shoes for a day has to give you a different perspective on life than what you may currently have.
Beetlejuice
Favorite Line From Movie:
“I myself am strange and unusual.”
What I take from the movie:
I’m proud that i know every line from the movie which is one thing 🙂 If i can find any moral in the movie it would have to be that you make your own happiness.
The Princess Bride
Favorite Line From Movie:
Buttercup: You mock my pain!
Man in Black: Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.
What I take from the movie:
Just a good movie. Haha
Labyrinth
Favorite Line From Movie:
“Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, I have fought my way here to the castle beyond the Goblin City to take back the child that you have stolen. For my will is as strong as yours, and my kingdom is as great… You have no power over me.”
What I take from the movie:
You have no power over me. The line she could never remember. Another don’t let others compromise who you are type of thing no matter how great it looks, in the end you won’t be happy with yourself if you do.
Dakota Skye
Favorite Line From Movie:
“Predictable doesn’t always mean boring; lust doesn’t always mean love; near doesn’t always mean close; new doesn’t always mean exciting; different doesn’t always mean better; far doesn’t always mean distant; knowing everything doesn’t make you wise; knowing the truth doesn’t make you superior; knowing your problem doesn’t solve it; and sitting between your past and your future doesn’t mean you’re in the present.”
What I take from the movie:
Do you take what life gives you? or go after what you want?
Heathers
Favorite Line From Movie:
“If you were happy everyday of your life, you wouldn’t be a human being – you’d be a gameshow host”
What I take from the movie:
Tread carefully who you let in your life and who you let ‘influence’ your life. Happiness is not a constant attainable goal…contentment on the other hand is a far better goal and lasts longer.
I encourage you to check out any you may not have seen and give them a try. Actually, there are many more that i’m thinking of right now i could have added so there may just be a part 2 of this post at some point so stay tuned for that.
