Ultimate Personality Test – Understand Myself Test by Jordan Peterson

I took a few months ago the ultimate personality test released on a website by Jordan Peterson called UnderstandMyself.com

I’m always intrigued by Jordan Peterson’s insight and opinions on people, motivations, and the overall point which is to try to be a better person.

So I decided today to share my results if you have maybe found this post trying to decide if you wanted to take the test and know what to expect from it. I’m far removed now from when I took it so I think now I’m ready to really dig into the results and see if I can really relate to the results, if they are really ‘me’, or maybe show me things about my personality I never thought were there.

Agreeableness: High (87th out of 100 Percentile)

Well, this isn’t really a shock. I always find a way to ‘fit in’ with any situation I’m in. I also think I try to be accommodating or ALWAYS look for the ‘silver lining’ anywhere and ways for people to improve themselves and their situation. I can’t help it…my mind I think always just ‘goes’ into problem solving mode.

Compassion: High ( 88th out of 100 Percentile)

This people sometimes tell me about myself if I don’t see it myself. I feel like i’m tough love about some subjects but maybe mine is ‘tactful tough love’ which makes it compassionate. LOL

Politeness: Moderately High ( 76th percentile)

The explanation reads ‘Moderately polite people tend to be deferential to authority, and are generally obedient. ‘  I wouldn’t call ‘politeness’ as being ‘obedient’.  COVID taught me just how rebellious I was. I wasn’t outwardly rebellious though so maybe that is the politeness. I would consider it an incognito rebellion. 😉

Conscientiousness: Typical or Average (41st percentile)

I think I like and relate most to this description of this test result: “People of average conscientious levels generally do their duty, although they are not sloggers. They are reliable, but waste some of their time and have some proclivity to procrastinate.”

Industriousness: Very Low (6th percentile)

I can’t relate to this result because I must have been answering these questions from a ‘on my own time’ point of view and not how I am at work. I feel like I’m very industrious when I’m at work making sure I stay on schedule, have timelines, and try to be most efficient as possible. It’s when I’m home I’ll make plans or goals and but the deadlines are loose and always changing. Here is there description of this result: “They put off all responsibility, concentrating on fun, worry, relationships, excitement or creative endeavour. They aren’t at all concerned with schedules, timelines or efficiency, and will have to be supervised excessively before their tasks will be completed. They lack focus and are far too-easily distracted.”

Orderliness: High (88th percentile)

This part of the result explanation I think I relate too the most.: “They can be good at ensuring that complex sensitive processes are managed properly and carefully.”

Extraversion: Moderately Low (40th percentile)

This is comical and obvious if you know me lol. I had to post alot of the result explaination because alot of it applies:

“People with moderately low levels of extraversion are not particularly enthusiastic, talkative, assertive in social situations, or gregarious. They tend to find excessive social contact draining and tiring, and crave time alone to recharge.

People who are moderately low in extraversion find it relatively easy to keep things to themselves. They are not compelled to share everything with everyone.  They are more comfortable with one-to-one interactions than in a group-oriented situation. They are rarely the first to speak in meetings, although they will express an opinion if asked. They are less likely to captivate and convince, and will rarely be the first to act in an ambiguous situation.

People who are moderately low in extraversion are better suited to occupations that require working alone or with a few other well-known individuals (such as computer programming or accounting).”

Enthusiasm: Moderately Low (36th percentile)

I think with anyone, it depends on the thing or situation where I’m enthusiastic using the definition of the word. I feel like I am a positive person though…I do tend to look on the bright side or try to find the bright side.

The results explain: “Individuals who are moderately low in enthusiasm are rarely excitable, not particularly easy to get to know, and not known for their talkative nature. When they do talk, it tends only to be about things in which they find particular interest. They do not easily open up to people, particularly in larger social gatherings or parties. They laugh more rarely than others. They tend to prefer solitude, although they can enjoy themselves around other people, in moderation. They are more private people, and are not particularly positive or optimistic. They do not crave the spotlight and, if creative, may find performing less desirable. They rarely seek out stimulation, excitement, activity or fun (and, if they do so, prefer quieter activities). People moderately low in enthusiasm are not gregarious or people-loving, and are not particularly positive about what might happen next .”

Assertiveness: Typical or Average (47th percentile )

I like this whole explaintation: ‘People of average assertiveness will sometimes take charge, spontaneously, but often let others step in first. They can put forward their own opinions but do not feel compelled to do so. They are not particularly dominant and do not generally strive to control social situations. At times, they can act in an influential or captivating manner, but it is not habitual. They can act, in ambiguous situations, but will often let others lead the way. They tend not to be particularly impulsive, and tend not to act without thinking.”

Neuroticism: High (82nd percentile)

Yikes! LOL  I guess this part of the explanation is true. I have no inclination to travel or do anything that has a dangerous element to it. AKA fly or drive a long distance.  I’ve made exceptions though in the past, I have traveled on a plane before but do not plan on making it a common thing in my life and I’m ok with that. I like where i’m planted.   “People with high levels of neuroticism appear to be much more risk-averse than average, which means they tend to avoid recreational, career, financial and social situations where the possibility of loss is high. Such people appear to be much more concerned with maintaining their current status, rather than enhancing it. Perhaps this is a good strategy in genuinely dangerous or uncertain times.”

Withdrawal: Very High (93rd percentile)

Whoa! LOL! I don’t relate to anything explained in this result. Except for this: “Perhaps people very high in withdrawal are extremely concerned that something bad might happen. Technically, withdrawal has been associated with activity in the brain systems that regulate passive avoidance.”

Volatility: Typical or Average (58th percentile)

This explanation below essentially means I tend to be a stoic person. Stay even and generally calm or seem calm in a stressful situation or conflict with someone which is generally true I think.

“Individuals average in volatility tend not to vary abnormally in their mood. They are not particularly irritable, and feel no more than typical levels of disappointment, frustration, pain and social isolation. They express their frustration, disappointment and irritability reasonably and not excessively often. Even when stirred up and upset or angry or irritated, they calm down relatively quickly. They are no more argumentative than average and infrequently lose their composure.

If provoked in a dispute, a person of average volatility may react in kind (particularly if also low in agreeableness). However, such people generally remain calm and unperturbed, even when stressed.

Volatile people tend to get upset if something bad does happen, while people high in withdrawal (the other aspect of neuroticism) tend to be concerned that something bad might happen. Technically, volatility has been associated with activity in the brain systems that regulate fight, flight or freeze.”

Openness: Very High (91st percentile)

Generally, I do think this is me for certain, I like to learn and think deeply about things and concepts.   “People with very high levels of openness are extremely likely to be characterized by others as uncommonly smart, creative, exploratory, intelligent and visionary. They are strikingly interested in learning, and are constantly acquiring new abilities and skills. They are very curious and exploratory. They are very interested in abstract thinking, philosophy, and the meaning of belief systems and ideologies. They will seek out cultural events such as movies, concerts, dance recitals, plays, poetry readings, gallery openings and art shows. They are unusually likely to enjoy writing (or even to be driven to write). They enjoy complex, abstract ideas and love to confront and solve complex, abstract and multi-dimensional problems.”

Intellect: High (78th percentile)

Problem solving has always been my jam! LOL I tend to have  a hard time giving someone my ear for them to vent about an issue they are having without me wanting to then share the ‘fix’ or suggesting a solution so they can avoid that issue in the future.  My mind just goes right to the ‘here is the fix…or here is what you can try’. The results explain this is not IQ this is intellect…the ability to understand or find interest in sometimes deep topics and enjoy dissecting them for a higher understanding that can be used for good in all aspects of life.

“People high in intellect are quite interested in ideas and abstract concepts. They enjoy being confronted with novel information, even when it is complex. They are substantially more curious and exploratory than average, and frequently like to tackle and solve problems. They will actively engage in and seek out and initiate issue-oriented discussions, and are likely to read, think about and want to discuss idea-centered books (most frequently non-fiction). They are generally articulate and can formulate ideas clearly and quickly (particularly if average or higher in extraversion). They have a wide vocabulary, and actively enjoy learning new things. People high in intellect will often find and generate novel, creative concepts and voluntarily search for and adapt well to new experiences and situations.”

Aesthetics: Very High (93rd percentile )

Love this one! I always fall short in calling myself an ‘artist’. Artist is a gift word given by others. All I know is I just love art and creative things and like to do those things my in personal and professional life and this must be why, it’s a part of my personality to do so.    “Generally speaking, a person’s aesthetics score reflects their creativity. People who are very high in aesthetics love beauty. They require an outlet for their creative ability, or they cannot thrive. They need to be surrounded by art or beautiful crafts. They are strikingly sensitive to color and architectural form. They very much like to collect things, now and then to the point of obsession. They are very imaginative, and love to daydream and reflect on things. They are uncommonly affected by music, often of many genres, and may be musical or artistic themselves (both of these are rare in the general population). They can get unusually immersed in a book, or a movie, or in their own thoughts, and become oblivious to the outside world. They respond very strongly to beauty, creativity and art.”
