Scrapbook Page “100% Boy”
My stocking up (aka buying spree) has come to an end realizing that I have plenty now to actually work on some pages here is my first double page spread using many techniques that I have seen used. This is actually my first scrapbooking pages I’ve done since I stopped doing them in the late nineties.

A Closer Look At The Details
It’s a boys page, but it’s nature as well so who says you can’t add a couple flowers? I kept the colors of the flowers subtle though so that they were just accents and not overpowering. I doubled up 2 prima flowers kept together with a copper brad. I then punched 2 leaves out of this green crinkled paper to make the leaves.
I had the idea to make photo corners out of this candlewick yarn that i have been coveting whenever I find any at a yard sale (and this year i have been finding tons of it). Thought it would add a nice detail. I also decided to make my own texture on the yellow coredinations photo backgrounds.
Here is how I made this texture:
First you turn your cut square whitewash down on your score board and score every line all the way across. Then, turn the paper the other direction and score every inch. Turn it around and you’ll see the texture it created. You could leave it this way but since this is coredinations paper, I took my sanding block and sanded the raised area for a very subtle yellow hint. This might be really nice for halloween page with some Coredinations Black Magic Paper Colors.
Threaded Photo Corners
You can make any formation you’d like in the holes so feel free to experiment.
Here are the tools you’ll need. A 1/8 hole punch, darning needle, coordinating color candlewick yarn.
Place your photo on the background paper and with a pencil make a small hole where you want your thread holes to be. Be sure to put them at an angle where the thread will span a large part so that once it’s done you’ll actually be able to see it. This worked well for this photo because there was a lot of ’empty’ space in the corners that didn’t have my photo subject so I wouldn’t be covering anyone in the photo.
I then took my punch, and punched directly over the marks I made. No erasing was necessary since I made the marks so small, I just punched them out. Then get a long enough piece of thread that you will be able to thread the entire piece of paper with and start pulling it through the holes like so.
Faux Souveniers
I’m proud of this idea…thought it be a nice touch. I wanted the page to make it seem like we collected some souveniers from the trip so I cut some cork that I had, and grabbed these bug stickers (that i’ve had for ages…came in a kit) and I placed them on the cork in a random formation. I put these screw looking brads on the left and right sides. At first, I tried to make the ‘pins’ to hold the bugs in place out of paper with some shading but on advice (thank you Cathy!) they just didn’t look like what they were supposed to. I looked through my embellishments for something else, and came across my grey pearls and they really reminded me of pin heads. I put the smallest ones in that pack on the bugs and I think they work alot better than the paper did!
For the leaf clippings, you start almost like your making a shaker box. I first cut a square that I knew would fit in that space. I then cut the circle out of the middle using my punch. I wanted it to look like a ‘pressed flower’ so I took some plastic sheets that I had in my stash, cut a square the same size as the paper and adhered it to the paper. I then took the ‘negative’ of the circle I cut out, turned the circle around (this is the whitewash paper so the other side was yellow), and then glued 2 of the leafs onto it. (No waste!) I then taped the circle to the back of the square behind the plastic and now it looks like specimens that were collected. I hand wrote the date on it. This is another way to showcase the date.
Following that theme, I found this explore sentiment in my DCWV Boys Quotes Stack that I thought fit the theme and the color scheme.
This being my first scrapbooking page since i’m pretty sure 1996 (a double spread at that) I’m really happy with the way it turned out. Now i’m hooked again!
