My New Low Carb Lifestyle
Diet IS a frame of mind and a lifestyle change that simply will NOT work for you if that little switch doesnt flip in your brain to follow through.
My switch officially happened about a week and a half ago. I started reading about keto and low carb eating and it started to click for me. I realized that all and I mean all of my favorite foods are ok on keto. Salmon, tuna, zucchini, deli meat, steak, sharp cheddar cheese, spinach, pecans, walnuts! …to name a few. So once it sunk in that I would have so many options it felt really natural to just start.
If you are hungry on keto…you’re doing it wrong.
This was another bit of advice I came across. Diets are not supposed to be torture. If its torture and you’re hungry you’re doing something wrong. So if I’m hungry after a meal, I eat my allotted nuts for the day or one pickle spear (its keto!) to fill me up. Works everytime and way more satisfying than the half a bag of chips I would eat to fill up on before.
The benefits of keto is feeling more focused and clarity on this diet than I ever did the way I ate before.
Mid day, every day I would hit a wall and just drag myself through the rest of the day mentally the way I was eating. Now I feel very awake and focused and not tired like I was before. The old adage is 100 percent true. You are what you eat!
What i eat in a day
On a typical day here is an example of what I eat. Sundays are our steak dinner days so this is what I ate this past sunday.
BREAKFAST
1 hard boiled egg, 4 pieces of bacon, 1 diet coke
LUNCH
Spinach salad with ham, onion, sharp cheddar, low carb croutons, and 2 tbls of Catalina dressing. The dressing may not be keto but remember this whole thing is not no carb, its low carb!
Dinner
For dinner I made rib eye which is a fatty cut that is recommended on keto (love fat!) And some baked zucchini with olive oil, garlic powder, and pepper until soft.
Snacks
I love to snack but usually that will come between meals during the day. I never or rarely eat anything else after dinner which is another recommendation on keto. Eat within 8 hour window then fast 16 hours. With my schedule i’ve managed to eat within 10 and fast 14. So i’m working on that. Usually about an hour after breakfast I’ll be hungry again so I have a new found love for celery and peanut butter that is a snack on keto. Nuts are also a good snack and my favorite nuts are at the top of the lowest carb list being pecans and walnuts. This pic shows mixed but I was able to find planters sells just walnuts and just pecans at walmart but the price is comparable on Amazon for 3 pack of planters walnuts and single of pecans.
Another good keto snack I found was put pepperoni in the oven with some mozzarella cheese on top and that to me is the best part of pizza anyway so this hit the spot one day as well when I needed a little something spicy. Tiny pizzas!
So far a week and a half in I’m down 5 pounds. When I tried to lose before I’d feel like that 5 lbs. was nothing but now…I’m glad for it. Small victories. It’s not going up. It’s going down. Once I hit my goal weight, it will just be maintenance at that point.
How are you handling keto low carb diets?
