Permission to be an Introvert
Came across a Ted Talk by Susan Cain today about being introverted. She brought up points that I had inklings of but never put into words that I fully agree with. How when I went to school, we primarily had individual desks in rows and columns and worked independently, with our own thoughts and that was encouraged. Now, like my own kiddo, every class practically is a group activity and to me this is a good addition for ‘some’ classes, but not all. Some children will miss out if their extrovert counterparts in the group continually have the answers or raise their hands, then the introverted children won’t have the opportunities to share their opinions cause they won’t have the voice to do so like they could if they were asked individually at their own desks.
Being an introvert, I love having a job where I have my own office, being my own boss on my projects. In turn then, this does give me the confidence to speak like an extrovert cause I’m in charge of this particular client and project. So we (introverts) can rise to the occasion just in our own way which is something no one should be ashamed of like current cultures appear to put on the ‘quiet’ people. I recommend this Ted Talk on the subject, and included the video below. Enjoy!
