Quilt 1 – 2011: Antoinette’s Labyrinth – The Beginning!
Dare I try to make 12 quilts this year? Setting a goal for myself, not sure how attainable.
Starting with one, I’ve started sewing my ‘L’ shaped pattern design quilt otherwise known as Antoinette’s Labyrinth. (I need a shorter name for it.) Ant’s Lab. 🙂
Anyway, here are a couple of pictures I took out of excitement last night that I wanted to share.
My first reaction, it’s definetly going to be colorful.
I think I just really, kind of subconciously, really like ‘patchwork’ looking quilts and this design definetly follows suit.
My plan for the design is 48 x 63. In reviewing some standard quilt size lists recently that is slightly larger than a crib quilt. I think I’d prefer this to be more of a throw so I’ve already thought about adding a border around this of at least 4 inches or so to almost feature the design which I can envision really liking but we’ll see.
So far all of the blocks are lining up which is a pretty huge accomplishment being that on the rag quilt i did previously was more forgiving with that i know a block or two was shifted but you couldn’t really notice.
Things were going fine then oops! A major skew happened. I tried to fix it and it just didn’t do the trick. I kept going through thinking well this is my first quilt so I can allow those imperfections to give the quilt character…yeah right…i’ve decided tonight i’m going to seam rip that part out and try to fix it the best I can.
If i’m going to do this, i’m going to do it right.
(by the way, the yellow in this picture is much lighter than this is showing.
